Virus shuts down part of Marion County Courthouse
04:38 PM PDT on Wednesday, April 23, 2008
Part of Marion County Courthouse was shut down Wednesday after the latest employee in a line of several became sick.
Court manager Jerry Frost told KGW that during his 30 years of working at the courthouse, he has never before seen anything like this.
The trouble began last week when an administrative assistant went home feeling extremely ill. She was hospitalized and her condition has deteriorated. She was recently moved to the hospital's intensive care unit, Frost said.
Her case was confirmed to be influenza.
However, since then, three additional employees have fallen ill and their cases are not believed to be the flu.
On Wednesday morning, a court security screener became violently ill. Staff called 911 and she was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
Whatever is making people sick is limited to the south wing of the courthouse. The wing was closed for cleaning after the employee became sick Wednesday and will reopen Thursday.
