11:22 AM PDT on Tuesday, April 8, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. -- An Oregon doctor was in critical condition after his legs were crushed in an accident while he was loading baggage into his SUV at Portland International Airport.
Dr. Joel Hopkin of Salem was injured when the car behind him was struck by another car, pinning him against his vehicle.
Police say an elderly couple from Vancouver, Washington, had stopped to pick up a passenger when their car got out of control and lurched forward, triggering the weekend accident.
The 39-year-old Hopkin is a surgeon and professor at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. He also has private practice offices in Salem and Albany.
No charges were expected.
