Police investigate suspicious death of inmate at Ore. State Penitentiary

SALEM, Ore. -- Police were investigating a suspicious death at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem on Thursday.

According to preliminary information, an inmate was found dead Thursday morning in his cell at the penitentiary.

Also: Prison evacuated due to fumes

An autopsy will be performed by the State Medical Examiner's Office in Portland.

The name of the inmate will be released following next-of-kin notification.
