Intruder captured inside Keizer woman's apartment
08:24 AM PST on Thursday, February 7, 2008
Police captured a man inside the apartment of a bed-ridden woman in Keizer early Thursday morning.
Authorities said a man was seen lurking around the Keizer neighborhood around 2:30 a.m. and was possibly trying to break into residences in the 800 block of Weeks Drive NE. So police responded to investigate.
When they pulled up, a woman flagged them down and pointed them to an apartment where woman was bed-ridden inside. Police found the suspect inside that apartment and arrested him.
The suspect had gotten inside through an unlocked door and told the woman not to call police, so she called her sister instead, who then called 9-1-1 herself.
The suspect was later identified as Patrick E. Haines, 40, of Salem. Police said they were unsure why he snuck into the apartment “but it is suspected that quick thinking to make a phone call for help by the resident possibly kept her from being victim of additional crimes,” said Sgt. Greg Barber with the Keizer Police Department.
