Man arrested for attempted murder after NE Portland stabbing

PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested a man for attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a woman in northeast Portland Thursday night.

The suspect, 56-year-old Willy Hawkins, was charged attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon, police said. He was booked into the Justice Center Jail.
The victim was identified as 45-year-old Tracy Scott Walls.
Walls underwent surgery and was placed in the intensive care unit at Oregon Health & Sciences University, but was expected to survive, according to police.
Detectives will not be able to interview the victim for several days.
The crime was committed at the suspect's place of residence, in the 8100 block of Northeast Beech Street.
Both the suspect and victim have had contact with police in the past.
