Gas thieves steal 300 gallons from Rose City Golf Course
07:40 AM PDT on Wednesday, June 18, 2008
Thieves stole about 300 gallons of gas from the Rose City Golf Course, officials said Tuesday.
The golf course is owned by the city, which means taxpayers are stuck with the bill.
Greenskeepers said that when they arrived Tuesday morning at the course, they found the 300-gallon gas tank that had just been filled was empty.
A hole had been cut through the fence and hoses were left behind.
The thieves made off with nearly a ton -- more than $1,200 worth -- of unleaded gasoline.

It was quite a haul for the thieves, considering that each gallon of gas weighs about 6-and-a-half pounds.
