Woman upset over custody tried to set fire to DHS, police say
12:21 PM PDT on Tuesday, April 8, 2008
GRESHAM, Ore. -- A woman who was angry after losing her parental rights is accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail through a window at the Department of Human Services office in Gresham, police said.
Employees found a broken window, unlit Molotov cocktails and a rock at the DHS building on NW Division back in November, 2005. No fire had ignited, police said.
Employees said they had been getting threats from 27-year-old Marlene Chenette. Officers later charged Chenette and 32-year-old Chris Coopersmith with attempted arson.
Chenette was arrested in Vancouver Tuesday morning. Coopersmith was arrested back in late March.
