06:49 PM PDT on Sunday, October 14, 2007
BURNS, Ore. -- A Bend motorcyclist died Saturday night after hitting a deer and then getting struck by a pickup truck, police said.
The accident happened about 7:10 p.m. when a 46-year-old Bend man eastbound on US 20, approximately five miles east of Burns, collided with a deer in the roadway.
The collision knocked him off his motorcycle and he was then struck by a westbound Dodge Dakota pickup driven by Dawn Salsbery, 42.
Neither Salsbery nor her two passengers were injured, according to police.
The motorcyclist was transported to Harney District Hospital, where he died about an hour after the crash.
Troopers were investigating the crash.
The name of the motorcyclist will be released after his family is notified.
