Injured hiker rescued from Oregon's Smith Rock State Park
11:40 AM PDT on Tuesday, September 4, 2007
TERREBONNE, Ore. -- Police say a 54-year-old Portland woman had to be rescued at Smith Rock State Park in Terrebonne after she fell and injured her leg.
Sergeant Chad Davis says Kathy Overly was hiking Monday and was unable to walk on her own after the fall.
Oregon State Park Rangers called 911 after Overly's friend reported the accident. Overly was on the trail at the base of the Monkey Face climb.
Overly's friend left her and hiked for about one hour to receive cellular phone service.
The Redmond Fire Department and members of the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team used a raft to cross the river to reach Overly. She was then brought across the river and taken to St. Charles- Redmond.
