TERREBONNE, Ore. -- A Terrebonne man was killed Thursday night when he was struck by a large truck while crossing Highway 97 on foot.
About 9:38 p.m., a truck towing a trailer loaded with bees was southbound on Highway 97. The truck driver, Woodburn resident Kevin C. Gross, 48, suddenly saw a pedestrian crossing the highway but was unable to stop, said Oregon State Police Lieutenant Gregg Hastings.
The victim, James Lee Williams, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing dark-colored clothing, Hastings said.
Gross was not injured and police did not cite him.
The highway was closed until about 2 a.m.
The truck is registered to Cascade Honey out of Woodburn.
