Elaborate fake bomb forces evacuation of Redmond neighborhood
11:01 AM PDT on Tuesday, July 31, 2007
REDMOND, Ore. -- Officers from the Redmond Police Department called the Bomb Squad after getting a call about a possible explosive device.
Seventeen apartments were evacuated yesterday.
When the residents were leaving their home they found what appeared to be an elaborate explosive device on their front porch.
The area was between Southwest 31st and Southwest 33rd Street. It was closed to non-essential traffic.
The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad was called out to examine the device.
The Bomb Squad assessed it and eventually set off a small explosion to render the device harmless. After closer examination it was determined to be an elaborate fake bomb.
Residents were notified it was safe to return to their homes.
The case is still under investigation.
