Both trucks sustained major damage in the crash.

Police said one of the semi-trucks veered into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason and the other driver tried, but could not avoid a collision.

Both vehicles also caught fire after the collision.

A 32-year-old passenger in the truck that caused the crash died at the scene. Both drivers were taken to St. Charles Hospital in Bend where they were listed in serious condition.

Debris from the vehicles, which included a large amount of tomato juice, was spread out across the highway and had to be cleared from the scene.

Police said the crash happened near milepost 191 just before midnight and caused a seven-hour closure of the highway.

All three of the crash victims were from California.
