Three-year-old Bend girl drowns in backyard pond
09:29 AM PDT on Monday, April 14, 2008
A three-year-old girl drowned in a Bend pond after disappearing out of sight for just five minutes at most, according to investigators.
Police said little Sydne Jensen had been playing in her yard near an unfenced pond with her nine-year-old sister when she was left unattended for a period of only three to five minutes and was then discovered by her sister in the pond.
Leslie Jensen, the girl's mother, started giving CPR immediately and called 9-1-1 for assistance.
Then, the child was transported to St. Charles Medical Center by ambulance where she was later pronounced dead.
“At this time, the initial investigation indicates this was a tragic accident,” said detective Lieutenant Kevin Dizney with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
