Oregon wineries help CA fire disaster relief

Seventy-one area wineries participated Oct. 22 in Oregon Cares Disaster Relief for California, raising $35,000 that will benefit three funds that have been established for victims of the wildfires.

About 400 people attended the event held at The Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg. The minimum donation for entry was $125 per person, of which $100 was tax deductible and donated to disaster relief funds.

The fundraiser was the brainchild of Pierre Zreik, managing director of The Allison, a luxury resort in Yamhill County where guests drive past seven scenic acres of estate vineyards as they enter the property.

"If it happened to us, they'd be there for us," Zreik said of Oregon's vineyard brethren affected by the wildfires.

A list of participating wineries is posted on the event website.
