Winds down trees, power lines in Portland metro area

KGW chief meteorologist Matt Zaffino said this would be the wildest weather weekend we've had in 2018, and so far that forecast is coming to fruition.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- KGW chief meteorologist Matt Zaffino said this would be the wildest weather weekend we've had in 2018, and so far that forecast is coming to fruition.

While snow didn't reach the metro area on Saturday, winds picked up. Zaffino said gusts had picked up.

The effects were seen Saturday afternoon.to 30 mph in the metro area late Saturday morning.

A tree fell on a recovery house in Hillsboro. Nobody was injured and everyone was able to get out safely.

KGW viewer Patii Pineda sent us a photo of a tree that collapsed on top of an unoccupied car near North 14th Avenue and Fremont Street in Cornelius.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said falling branches knocked out power lines near North 19th Avenue and Holladay Street. The road was closed between there and the intersection of Northwest Susbauer Road and Long Road for a couple hours.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation tweeted shortly after 1 p.m. that the intersection of Cornell Road and Skyline Boulevard was closed due to a downed tree and power lines.

On Sunday, the focus of weather will shift to the possibility of lowland snow.
