Avalanche Warning issued for Mount Hood backcountry areas

The Northwest Avalanche Center says warming, combined with strong winds and heavy rain and snow, has led to dangerous avalanche conditions.

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. – An Avalanche Warning has been issued for backcountry areas in the Mount Hood area.

The Northwest Avalanche Center says warming, combined with strong winds and heavy rain and snow, has led to dangerous avalanche conditions. They say travel through backcountry terrain is not recommended. The warning was issued Saturday morning and is in effect until 6 p.m.

While the warning is in effect for backcountry areas, the center said the forecast does not apply to developed ski areas or highways.

Earlier this week, a ski patroller was injured after being partially buried by an avalanche on Mount Hood.
