PORTLAND, Ore. -- For the first time ever, both the Oregon and Oregon State women’s basketball teams made it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA women’s tournament.

Oregon, a No. 2 seed, had victories over Seattle University and Minnesota before defeating 11-seeded Central Michigan 83-69 in the Sweet 16 on Saturday.

The upset-minded Beavers defeated Western Kentucky before knocking off No. 3 seed Tennessee in Knoxville in the second round. The Beavers, a six seed, followed that upset with another when they ended No. 2 seed Baylor’s season in the Sweet 16.

If both teams keep winning, there is a chance they could meet in the National Championship game on April 1.

The Beavers play No. 1 seed Louisville for a spot in the Final Four on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT. The game will be televised on ESPN.

The Ducks also play a No. 1 seed, Notre Dame, in the Elite Eight. That game is at 6 p.m. Monday night on ESPN.

In 2017, Oregon and Oregon State made the Sweet 16 together for the first time ever. The Beavers were eliminated by Florida State, while the young Ducks made it all the way to the Elite 8 as a No. 10 seed before they were eliminated by Connecticut, which had won 110 straight games.
