Portland Winterhawks General Manager/Head Coach Jamie Kompon has announced that center Dominic Turgeon has been named the team's captain.

Turgeon is entering his fourth season with the Winterhawks, and was a third round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2014 NHL Draft. He's increased his scoring every season in the league, setting career-highs in 2014-15 with 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points.

"Dominic is a consummate professional whose preparation is second to none. The way Dominic conducts himself on and off the ice exemplifies what we look for in a captain," said Kompon. "Along with Dominic, we have a strong leadership group who will set a great example for our young players."

In addition to naming Turgeon captain, the Winterhawks have named their alternate captains: Paul Bittner, Blake Heinrich and Keoni Texeira will be alternate captains at home games, while Jack Dougherty, Keegan Iverson and Alex Schoenborn will wear the ‘A' on the road.

Turgeon becomes the 41st captain in team history, joining such players as Braydon Coburn, Adam Deadmarsh, Paul Gaustad, Brenden Morrow and Brent Peterson. He takes over the captain's position from Nic Petan, who has graduated from the league.

Premier membership season tickets for the 2015-16 season are on sale now and start at only $42 per month and include playoffs. Visit winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK to reserve the best seat locations.
