VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A pedestrian on Highway 99 in Hazel Dell who apparently fell down while trying to cross the road was hit and killed Thursday morning.
Police said a driver fled the scene of the fatal crash Thursday morning before calling authorities to turn himself in.
Crews were called just after 6 a.m. to the 10700 block of Northeast Highway 99 in Hazel Dell, where a man had been struck by a car.
Dylan J. Digiulio, 42, was lying in the roadway when emergency crews arrived. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses said Digiulio was crossing Highway 99 across from Lyle's Village Pantry with someone else when he fell down, according to Sgt. Alex Schoening of the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
Schoening said the driver, 29-year-old Jeffrey A. Hill, struck Digiulio and left the scene. A short time later he called 911 to report what had happened.
