Driver dies in crash on Highway 26 in Manning

A detour is in place, but drivers should expect delays in the area.

MANNING, Ore. – One man died and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 in Manning on Monday afternoon.

An unspecified medical emergency and lack of seat belt use are being considered as factors in the death of George H. Fleerlage, 86, of Portland, according to the Oregon State Police.

Fleerlage was westbound when he entered the median and struck a car driven by Mitchel Braning, 55, of Banks, who had stopped to turn left into a local business.

Fleerlage was pronounced dead at the scene. Braning initially declined treatment but was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

The crash occurred near a Dairy Queen restaurant at 47650 NW Sunset Hwy, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

This was the second fatal crash on Highway 26 in the Manning area in the last four days. Two people died and five were injured in a crash on Friday.
