Dangerous waves pound coast; windy weekend ahead

The NWS said it was dangerous to venture near the beaches.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Dangerous waves continued to batter the Oregon and Washington coasts Friday.

A High Surf Advisory expired Friday afternoon, but a High Wind Watch will be in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning from the Central Oregon Coast to the South Washington Coast.

The high surf caused dangerous rip currents and beach erosion. The NWS said it was dangerous to venture near the beaches.

On Thursday, a man was swept out to sea in Depoe Bay. A search was suspended later that night.

In Lincoln City, waves slammed into a few beachfront motels and restaurants. One woman was thrown across her room at Sea Gypsy Motel.

Damage at Sea Gypsy Motel, Kyllo's Seafood and Grill and Sandcastle Beachfront Motel was expected to be more than $1 million, according to North Lincoln Fire Rescue.
