PORTLAND -- Motorists should avoid the downtown Portland waterfront area Sunday morning as thousands converge in the area for the Race for the Cure.

The following streets will be closed from about 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

-- West Burnside between Broadway and 2nd
-- Broadway from the Broadway Bridge south to Madison
-- SW Taylor from Naito to Broadway--
-- SW Salmon from Naito to Broadway
-- Naito Parkway from SW Clay to NW 15th will be closed from 7am until 12:30pm
-- All downtown streets west of Broadway, and south of SW Main are open all morning.
-- Delays crossing SW Taylor and Main Streets. The route uses SW Taylor and Salmon Streets going west from Naito arkway.  Motorists wishing to get to the south downtown area along SW 3rd Avenue and SW 5th will encounter delays of 5 to 20 minutes to get south of Salmon.

MAX and bus lines will be on a Sunday schedule but the agency is adding 12 extra trains. The Green Line will have an extra train at Clackamas Town Center departing at 6:37 a.m., 6:58 a.m. and 7:26 a.m. The Blue and Yellow lines will have extra trains from 6 to 9 a.m.

Several bus stops in race area will be closed, with signs directing riders where to go.
