Do you feel safe enough to attend future events at Portland's Pioneer Square?
More than 17,000 beer lovers will flock to Pioneer Courthouse Square this week for the 15th annual Holiday Ale Festival.
Organizers highlighted more than four dozen bold and hearty winter ales. Clear-topped tents with gas heaters will keep people warm in the Square. There's also food, event merchandise, a coat check for charity, and seasonal background music.
Pioneer Square officials already increased security following the bomb scare at the Christmas tree lighting, the last big event there. Ale Fest spokeswoman Chris Crabb said organizers did not plan to increase their own contracted security, since the Square had already done so.

The Ale Fest runs from Wednesday December 1st through the 5th. A mug and 10 beer tickets costs $25, beer tickets are $1.
Full mugs are four tickets and tasters are one ticket - but some specialty beers are two tickets. Designated drivers receive complimentary root beer courtesy of Crater Lake Soda Company.
The event is for ages 21 and over.
