There’s a new way of doing and watching the news in Portland.

The KGW HD Studio on the Square will be home to daily broadcasts of Newschannel 8 at Sunrise, the noon broadcast, and the Live @ 7 show starting on March 17.

Everything about the High Definition facility is state of the art -- from the cameras and set, to the lighting.

Last weekend, hundreds of viewers came out for an open house tour and a chance to meet their favorite KGW personalities.

Fiber optics connect all the video and audio and the signal is fed back by to KGW's main studio at SW 15th and Jefferson.

KGW now has the instant ability to cover the some 300 yearly events at the square -- while making a closer connection with viewers.

"Our goal is to be very, very local," station General Manager D.J. Wilson says. "To be hyper-local in this community and have the connectivity to what's going on in terms of all the investment in downtown Portland."
