Man buys gas for surprised strangers in West Linn

WEST LINN, Ore. -- A Good Samaritan surprised people gassing up in West Linn by paying their bills for them this week.

KGW report on 'paying it forward'

The man told KGW that he came into some inheritance money recently and decided to use it to help others.

So Dave, who didn’t give his last name, waited for people to drive up to the pumps at the Chevron in West Linn and then he told them, “I’ve got it.” Then, he simply asked each person to “pay it forward” and help out someone else in the near future.

No word on how much Dave has spent but gas station attendants estimated that by late Friday he had paid for about 60 fill-ups at an average of $40 each, worth a total of about $2,000.

“A couple of ladies were just about to burst into tears from the joy I guess, they were just amazed that someone was doing that,” said Alama Lopez, who works at the gas station.

Dave said it won’t work if people just show up at the Chevron in West Linn hoping for a free fill-up. It’s a random act of kindness, not a gas giveaway.
