Humane Society helps 10,000th Second Chance dog

A lucky dog from Bend received a new “leash” on life Wednesday after arriving at the Oregon Humane Society in Portland. The beagle-mix named Lollypop was the 10,000th Second Chance dog.

A beagle-mix named Lollypop was the 10,000th Second Chance dog to arrive at the Oregon Humane Society in Portland on Wednesday.
The Second Chance program takes in cats and dogs from shelters throughout Oregon that don’t have adequate kennel space, or that have exhausted all adoption options. The Oregon Humane Society has a very successful adoption program. According to the OHS website, it finds homes for 96 percent of the dogs and 80 percent of the cats coming to the shelter.
“Our goal is to get as many dogs adopted as possible, and that means lending a hand to other shelters when they get overwhelmed,” said Sharon Harmon, OHS executive director.
The 10,000 Second Chance dog named Lollypop was part of a group brought to Portland from Bend.
