Springfield, Ore. loses to Vermont in Simpsons movie contest

The Simpsons.
Springfield, Oregon had hoped it had an in because Simpsons creator Matt Groening is from Portland. And many of the show's landmarks are named after streets in Portland.
But the southeastern Vermont community was declared the winner today among 14 communities of the same name nationwide that competed for the title of the official hometown of the Simpsons, of TV comedy fame.
It will get to host the premier of "The Simpsons Movie" July 26th.
In the Oregon video, the narrator notes that "the only Springfield Groening passed through on his way to Hollywood was in Oregon."
Springfield Mayor Sid Leiken says they have enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame and now it's time to get back to work.
Twentieth Century Fox ran an online poll inviting people to vote for their favorite among 14 videos submitted by the competitors.
