Cool off with free skating event at Lloyd Center
05:30 AM PDT on Thursday, May 15, 2008
If it’s to hot outside, people looking for a fun alternative to the sun can skate for free at the Lloyd Center Skating rink this weekend.
The skating is free from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18.
Participants just need to bring six cans of food to donate to Sunshine Division's blue collection barrels, in order to take part in the free event.
Organizers hope to collect 20,000 pounds of canned and nonperishable food.
"For the last few months we've been distributing from 50 to 115 percent more food than last year at this time," explained Sunshine Division operations manager Maryanne Dehner. "Which means even with record-breaking food drives last winter, there remains an urgent need for us to collect still more food—because more Portland families are getting hit by the daily realities of economic recession."
