Portland, OR -- Did you know there was a science behind juggling?

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is offering two days of shows for discovering the fascinating science behind the ancient art of juggling, May 17-18.

Science of Juggling will include shows by professional juggler and former Smithsonian artist-in-residence, Rhys Thomas, and on-site juggling instruction with educators from Portland's Amazama Juggling School.

"At OMSI we love to help our visitors learn more about the unexpected science that is part of our everyday world," said Mat Sinclair, Vice President of Experience and Delivery. "Science of Juggling is a fun and interactive way to learn about the complex science behind this awe inspiring act."

Rhys Thomas will bring science and fun together with his popular program Science Circus where gravity, inertia, and other science topics are demonstrated with bowling ball juggling, an acrobatic ladder, glass bowl spinning, and more.

Amazama Juggling School will be on hand both days to help visitors learn juggling techniques using flower sticks, balancing tools, spinning ribbons, and hula hoops.

Science Circus will also be presented three times each day at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. in the OMSI Auditorium. Amazama Juggling School will be in the OMSI back courtyard both days, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. This event is free with paid museum admission and free to OMSI members.
