OLYMPIA, Wash. — A Vancouver man’s very bad day ended very, very well earlier this week.

Rick Wagoner

Rick Wagoner, 59, was having the type of day where everything seemed to be going wrong. As the day was coming to a close, he decided to head to his local Albertsons for some groceries. His bad day continued when he got into a fender bender in the parking lot.

“I couldn’t believe the day I was having. Everything was going wrong and then a car accident to top it all off,” Wagoner said. “I saw the liquor store and thought maybe a small bottle of spirits was in order for the evening.”

In the store he saw the Lottery Scratch ticket display and decided to try his luck; he won $100. His day was starting to look up.

“I went into Albertsons to cash my ticket and buy my groceries,” Wagoner said. “I saw the $20 Maximum Millions Scratch ticket at the customer service counter and figured why not give it a try because I had never played $20 Scratch before.”

Wagoner finished up shopping and headed out into the lot. His unscratched ticket fell out of his hands in the wind and danced in the parking lot, finally landing in a puddle. He chased after the ticket, picked it up and headed home.

“I let my ticket dry for awhile when I got home,” he laughed. “Then I finally scratched it and I couldn’t believe my eyes! I started to shake uncontrollably and thought, ‘Wow, a bad day turned into one of the best in my life! I’m $50,000 richer!’”

Wagoner said he needs a little bit of time to think about what he’d like to do with his winnings.

“One thing I do know for sure,” Wagoner said, “I plan trying my luck again on another Scratch ticket!”

Wagoner purchased his winning Maximum Millions Scratch ticket from Albertsons located at 5000 E 4th Plain in Vancouver, Wash.
