A similar event happened back in 2005 over the Pacific Northwest. A fireball was spotted streaking through the sky on the 15th of March.

Exclusive home video shared with KGW was taken near Medford and showed a bright ball speeding through the air.

Bree Larson of Talent, Ore. said she was videotaping her friend doing a skateboard trick when she noticed a flash of light.

“She thought it was like, a bomb. I thought when it hit the ground it would go boom,” she recalled.

Layan Schwenfurth and her daughter also said they both saw it. Then, they visited the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, where there was a special meteor exhibit.

“We were really excited about it so we thought we'd come to OMSI and learn a little more about meteors,” Layan said.

The meteor spotted in the sky was likely about the size of a basketball, experts said.

A member of the Rose city Astronomers Club, Bob McGown was taking pictures of the moon when he saw a different glow.

“There was a shock wave that came up there was a glow on the horizon and there was kind of just mass hysteria i mean everybody was whooping and hollering,” he recalled.

Experts believe the meteor likely landed in the Pacific Ocean.
