These pictures were taken in the evening when my hummers go into what I call a "feeding frenzy". I set-up the tripod about 3 feet from the feeder and just began snapping pictures. The little hummers don't mind me being that close nor do they mind the flash going off. These are resident hummers that stay year around in the Pacific Northwest. The full adult male has amazing colors. All pictures taken with a Canon Powershot SX20IS. Besides the feeder I have special plants considered "hummingbird friendly"..they are very territorial an chase each other of at a drop of a hat.
