PORTLAND -- The Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade is one of the most unique events during the Portland Rose Festival and usually draws more than 250,000 spectators to downtown Portland.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2. It will start at NW Burnside Street and NW 9th Avenue, and then travel through downtown Portland and end at Lincoln High School.
This popular parade isn’t the usual show, with traditional marching bands and fancy floats. Instead, the hand-built entries glow in the dark and light up Portland streets lined with fans.
The 2012 Grand Marshals will be McMinnville couple Bruce and Esther Huffman, who gained a YouTube following with their "Webcam 101 for Seniors" video.
To add to the excitement of the parade, spectators can watch as each section sweeping past them features a special theme.
Traffic alerts: Check for closures & backups
Spectators were encouraged to take TriMet buses or the MAX, to avoid traffic jams. TriMet was planning to add extra service during the peak.
