PORTLAND -- Known as the crown jewel of the Rose Festival, the Grand Floral Parade began today at 10 a.m.
The Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade is recognized around the world as one of the most spectacular floral exhibits of the year.

Famous Oregon Zoo elephant "Packy" will be the Grand Marshal this year. He won't be able to physically lead the parade, but he'll leave his large footprint on the route, organizers said. Packy turned 50 this year at the Oregon Zoo.

The parade entries will wind their way down the 4.2-mile, route, starting at the Memorial Coliseum and ending in downtown Portland as cheers ring out from spectators lining the streets.

The Queen of Rosaria, Kate Sinnott of Central Catholic High School, was crowned just before the start of the Grand Floral Parade, and was presented to the public on the Rose Court float.

Watching from the streets is always free but fans wanting an extra up-close view will also have the option of watching from bleachers set up inside and outside the Memorial Coliseum. Admission there will be $30 for inside reserved seating, $15 at the south end of the indoor area, $30 for outside reserved seating and $25 for reserved bleachers outside.
