RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) — A new and larger aluminum fishing pier has been constructed on the Broad River in South Carolina.

Officials hold a grand opening Tuesday at the new pier located about 10 miles from Ridgeland at Knowles Island.

The pier owned and maintained by Jasper County will provide better access for all anglers, including those who have limited mobility.

County government agencies that manage shore-based fishing facilities can apply to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources for a grant to build, repair, or maintain structures used by anglers to fish in saltwater. Grants cover a portion of the overall costs.
