PORTLAND -- Portland's Union Gospel Mission served 619 meals Sunday during its annual Easter Brunch.
More than 150 volunteers served ham, eggs, biscuits, fruit, coffee and juice. The meal was free and was available to anyone in need.
A Gresham High School junior designed and sold T-shirts to raise money for "Hope Tote" hygiene kits given to the brunch guests.
"I got my inspiration from my mom,” said Hannah Kim. “Ever since I was little my mom would come to Portland every Christmas and she would buy socks, hats and scarves, and put them in the little present box and hand them out to the homeless. So I got really inspired by that."
Each kit includes essentials like a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap and other items. Kim said she enjoys seeing the happiness the Hope Totes bring.
