LANSING, Mich. – A Michigan mom with a daughter who has Cerebral Palsy has made it her mission to try and get chickens added to the official list of therapy animals.
Laura Anderson said she’s seen first-hand how chickens have helped her daughter. She said helping out with the neighbor’s chickens has given little Katelyn a sense of responsibility. She feeds them and collects their eggs.
“I like everything about the chickens," Laura said.
The neighbor will be moving soon and offered to leave the chickens behind for the Andersons to adopt. But Laura soon learned that would defy city rules.
“Since our farm is leaving, our urban farm protection is going with us. Now it’s the city not wanting birds at all," she said.
Laura Anderson started an online petition to try and earn the right to keep the chickens in town. So far, she's collected 7,000 signatures.
