PORTLAND -- Adventist Health received some national recognition this week for its efforts to keep employees healthy.
The Portland hospital system was ranked the 12th healthiest company in the nation, according to a group called Healthiest Employers.
Adventist runs a program for employees called Living Well which provides employees with information on healthy eating and exercise.
"It's a program effort to address the whole person needs of our employees, as well as a commitment to serve our community," said Ed Hoover, the manager of the Living Well program. "A lot of the work we do blends those together."
The hospital also has what's called the "Living Well Bistro," where the menu features plant-based, local organic sustainable foods.
"They encourage us to do weight loss, eat healthy, and provide classes to make us more healthy. If you're healthy, you're more productive and you work better," said Bill Vail, as he took a break from his lunchtime racquetball game.
The special Adventist program has been in place since the 1980's, but it's been expanded and refined over the years.
