EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon is taking green to the gowns.
This year, graduates will wear dark green, biodegradable robes complete with zippers made from recycled soda bottles, according to school officials.
Green graduation gowns are made of natural wood fiber and will decompose in about a year if buried underground. However, the university said students wanting to keep their robes as reminder of the achievment need not worry.
The robes will last, the school said, and despite rumors around campus, the UO told KVAL-TV that they shouldn't dissolve in the rain.
