SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane City Council may ban a class of insecticides to help protect honeybees.

Council President Ben Stuckart introduced the ordinance to ban insecticides known as neonicotinoids on city property.

The Spokesman-Review reports action was delayed a week at Monday's meeting to give the mayor's office time to assess the potential cost to the city.

Stuckart says the ban is part of an initiative for environmentally sustainable policies in Spokane.
