PORTLAND – The Rose City is America's best bike city, according to Bicycling Magazine. There are more cyclists per capita in Portland than in any other city in the country.

It's no surprise that two local companies are working together on a bike that eliminates the need for a car. The “CarGoAway” is a cargo bike that the designer and builder hopes will become many people’s primary transportation.

Dave Levy has been making high-end titanium and steel bikes for about 30 years. His latest creation, the CarGoAway, consists of 90 percent American-made material. And most of that is actually made in Portland.

“The concept sort of developed with the idea, ‘How do people live in Portland?’” Levy said. “And if you're living truly without a vehicle, other than a bicycle, you want to make so you can do all the things that life requires.”

Its electric motor is made by Portland’s Eco-Speed and enables the bike to travel up to 20 miles per hour with a 200-pound load.

The bikes are all custom built to order. Each one costs about $12,000.
