PORTLAND – On Saturday, nearly 1,000 tree lovers gathered at Hoyt Arboretum in an attempt to break the world record for tree hugging.
People gathered around the park’s Douglas firs and redwoods, hugging the trees for at least one minute.
The total tally of participants was 951 people. If confirmed by Guinness, the event will officially break the world record for the most people hugging trees at the same time.
Organizers said the Guinness World Record confirmation process could take several months.
