PENDLETON, Ore. -- A 310-turbine project proposed on 61,000 acres near Heppner in Morrow County would produce up to 504 megawatts, according to its developer.

The East Oregonian that the wind-power project also would generate substantial lease payments for the landowners involved.

State economist Mark McMullen says the Columbia River Gorge led the state throughout the last three years in economic output and in employment.

The region's economic strength is due in part to its agricultural output and other industries, including Facebook and Google data centers, and McMullen says growth in the wind industry has also played a role.
