ALOHA, Ore. – It’s spring, and with warmer weather comes some unwanted house guests – ants.
The pests can be a nuisance, as Rob McMaster of Halt Pest Control knows.
“Before you know it, you’ve got them everywhere. They’re coming out of the light switches, out of the baseboards,” he said.
While many turn to the professionals to rid their houses of the tiny pests, experts say there are some natural remedies homeowners can use to combat ants.
Ants are after food, so the biggest tip is to keep snacks properly stored and crumbs off counters and tables.
Another way to keep ants at bay is to keep them from getting inside by sealing cracks and other entry points.
Ants are also attracted to moisture, so make sure to keep areas around your house dry.
And if you have to use a repellent, use a less-toxic option like boric acid-based bait.
