"Going green" has really paid off for one Portland family.
The Markely family entered the "Drive Less, Save More" challenge, competing with three other area families to see who could reduce their car mileage the most in a week.
By riding their bikes, using TriMet buses and MAX and Zip cars, the family of four cut their car usage from 500 miles per week to just 44 miles.
The hardest part? Getting their 15-month-old back and forth to daycare.
"It took a long time in the cold dark rain to wait with your baby," said Julia Markely. "On the other hand, I got to cuddle her on the bus which you can't do when you're driving and she's in a car seat."
For their hard work, the family won gift certificates to stay at the Oregon coast, several restaurant gift certificates, and another bike trailer to encourage them to keep biking.
