PORTLAND, Ore. -- Hundreds of people in the Portland Metro area joined with activists in more than 140-countries for an international "day of action" on Saturday.
Events in Portland included a gathering of hundreds of paddlers on the Willamette River. The kayakers lined up their boats to form the number "350".
The number represents 350 parts per million, the number many scientists say we need to reduce carbon dioxide concentration in our atmosphere in order to maintain life as we know it.
Climatologists say the carbon dioxide concentration is currently at 387. They believe that high concentration is contributing to the melting glaciers, rising oceans, and climate-related weather changes.
