PORTLAND, OR—KGW NewsChannel 8 announced today that a new weekly half-hour program, Grant’s Getaways, will join the station’s program lineup. Hosted by KGW NewsChannel 8’s outdoor reporter, Grant McOmie, the program will feature the unique landscape and outdoor adventures that Oregonians love. Grant’s Getaways will premiere on Sunday, September 12 at 9:30 PM and will air in the prime time slot throughout the NFL season. The program is made possible through underwriting from Travel Oregon, Oregon Parks and Recreation, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Oregon State Marine Board.
Grant’s Getaways are already a popular feature for viewers of the number-one rated station. Individual segments have aired in KGW NewsChannel 8’s noon and weekend morning news for nearly two years. This year’s winter and summer half-hour specials received such a positive reception that the station and Travel Oregon collaborated to produce a regularly scheduled weekly show.
The premiere episode of Grant’s Getaways features hot air ballooning in Oregon wine country, climbing an old growth Douglas fir tree, bay clamming, and huckleberry picking in the Willamette National Forest.
Grant’s Getaways will also air regularly Saturdays at 7:30 PM on KGW NewsChannel 8. Additional telecasts will be seen Saturdays and Sundays at 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM and Sundays at 10 PM on the station’s new digital subchannel, KGW 24/7, on channel 8.2, Comcast 308.
Grant McOmie is a fifth generation Oregon native who has covered the Pacific Northwest outdoors for over 25 years. He has received numerous awards for his work including several Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He shares the distinct honor of the Edward R. Murrow Award for News Coverage from the Radio-Television News Directors Association as well as many Oregon AP News Awards.
