“Grant’s Getaways” Wins Northwest Emmy
KGW - Travel Oregon Honored For Excellence
SALEM, Ore. – June 6, 2012
Showcasing excellence in reporting and high-quality programming about destinations and outdoor recreation throughout Oregon, Grant McOmie, host of “Grant’s Getaways,” was honored on June 2 with five nominations and an Emmy win at the 49th Annual Northwest Regional Emmy® Awards, conducted by the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
McOmie earned best informational/instructional-feature segment for his coverage of the raptors on Bonny Butte, an area south of Mount Hood.
There he documented the migration of hawks and eagles, which observers call one of the most remarkable sights in Oregon.
The Oregon Tourism Commission, dba Travel Oregon, has partnered with KGW NewsChannel 8 and McOmie since 2009 to produce the popular “Grant’s Getaways” segments, featuring themes such as fishing, urban hiking, surfing, geocaching, whale watching, kayaking and whitewater rafting.
Through collaboration with Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon State Marine Board, the show has reached approximately 2.5 million households annually, bringing to life Oregon’s vast natural resources while inspiring year-round recreation and travel throughout the state.
“Grant’s Getaways” airs Thursdays at noon and Saturdays at 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on KGW NewsChannel 8.
The programs can also be seen on the regional broadcast partner Northwest Cable News (NWCN). Longer, web-only segments are available on TravelOregon.com and as podcasts on iTunes.
