LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The guy who made Darth Vader, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3PO look the way they do has died. Variety says Ralph McQuarrie was a designer who worked on the first three "Star Wars" movies. He also designed the spaceships in "Close Encounters" and "E.T." McQuarrie's work earned him a cameo in "The Empire Strikes Back." He played General McQuarrie and even got his own action figure. McQuarrie was 82. He had Parkinson's.
