PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A principal from the Clatskanie School District has submitted his letter of resignation amid a bullying scandal.

The letter from Jeff Baughman, principal at the combined middle and high school, was accepted at Monday's school board meeting.

Baughman and the Clatskanie School District are defendants in a federal lawsuit seeking $5 million in damages on behalf of three girls who allege they were harassed and bullied by boys when they were 12 and 13 years old.

Superintendent Lloyd Hartley told The Oregonian (http://is.gd/VgcPgH ) the resignation is "something we've been working on."

Hartley says the district has increased its supervision of students and is training teachers in a program that teaches students positive behavior.
